AKADEMIA MUZYCZNA im. Karola Szymanowskiego

Year of completion: 2007;

Architects: Konior Studio;

This building is full of music. When you are going through either new or historic spaces, from each class you can hear pieces of training of signers and musicians. All these sounds create a special atmosphere that helps to see all the details. Its architecture creatively continues the spatial language of the historical main Academy building. Exterior of the historic building creates feeling of in-between in and out space inside the interior.

This building is open to the public. You can enter the building and enjoy public space, history, and contrast. We used the space as a coworking, instead of being in dirty booking apartment. Creative atmosphere encourages and inspires for new ideas. It is very interesting how people use these spaces: they make notes for piano and learn how to open their mouth.

The museum complex is located on a historic coal mine. Its style may be described as rough and rusty industrial with inserts of new buildings made from custom made glass nicely working on contrast with historical architecture. Buildings are integrated with each other through excellent designed landscape spaces. The main exhibition space is hidden underground and is divided on different themes like traditional and modern art, history of Silesia and temporary galleries. Buildings on the ground level host temporary exhibitions, however the interiors do not reflect their architecture. Amazing industrial architecture is concealed under layers of gypsum and plastic to remain popular galleries design with white surfaces.

Fantastic brick building is situated inside historic buildings block. You cannot understand what the building is unless you notice the name written inside public portico. The facade consists of old historic brick part and new covered with brick color rectangular tiles integrating them into one building and the surrounding. A grandma at the reception refused us to look at the interior because of the covid even just the lobby, so we had to experience only exterior atmosphere.

Year of completion: 2014;

Architects: Tomasz Konior, in collaboration with the Kozłowski Acoustic Studio;

From the outside the concert hall looks too massive, over gigantic and monumental. The facade is divided in visual rows of glass and bricks. The side part of brick columns for some reason is painted in orange color. The public space around the building is as usually in such places organised thoroughly, urban paving with birch trees, custom lightning, benches and signs contribute to the design identity of the site. From the inside it creates wow effect with the height of the ceiling, contrast of the dark concrete and white marble and its infographics. The floor stone tiles has a texture that it feels like soft carpet.
